My Dream

When I was a little girl, I dreamed of dancing. I came from a family of 14 children (with 9 girls). My father worked very hard but didn't make hardly any money, not enough to raise 14 children. I used to dance in the window at night when the window made a reflection and became a mirror. I would dance for hours and beg my parents to let me take dance.  My mother with tears in her eyes would say, "Honey, we just can't afford dance."

When I turned 17, I got a job and was able to finally take Ballet. As someone who struggled with ADHD, dance gave me something to focus on, something I could work hard for, something I want every child to have the opportunity to have. 

I struggle knowing children can't participate in dance because they don't have the funds. I feel that if a child has the opportunity to express themselves through movement, it can heal them. And through them many of society's ailments. I know children with ADHD can learn to focus through movement. Children with autism can learn to express themselves, and children struggling with depression/anxiety can have an outlet. I want to give children a dance family, a place to go to create! 

In founding Starbright Dance, an organization where scholarships can be given, cost is very low, and costumes are affordable, we can now give children an opportunity to finally grow and express themselves through dance, regardless of the family’s financial situation.

I’m writing to you to ask you to support Starbright Dance. Your donation will go towards providing dance scholarships to children who have dreams but no means.

Finally giving a chance to all those little ones dancing in the window at night in their own reflections and the little ones who dance around the kitchen without a place to express themselves. Together we can give them a stage to dance upon!

Dance can be so beneficial to the social, physical, and emotional development of a child. 

I know we can have a positive impact on the lives of these children!
